Dear Lampwork Artist,
Thank you for your continued support of Beads of Courage! We are so appreciative of bead artists like you who help us give children and families the tools to tell their stories of courage as they go through their medical journey.
We are currently in need of bead artists to create matched bead sets for our Carry A Bead program. Carry a Bead is a vital encouragement program which offers the public a way to support Beads of Courage members on their journey while raising funds to sustain our mission. For more information on the Carry A Bead program, please visit our website.
What We Are Looking For
Carry A Beads can be any shape or size as long as 2 can fit on a safety pin (roughly 9-10 mm wide hole to hole) and be 14-15 mm in diameter. Most artists use 3/32 (2.4 mm) bead mandrels.
Ensure that all beads have nice “puckers” on the ends of the beads. The bead release must be cleaned out. Sharp edges on beads cut fingers and cannot be used. Overly frilly bits sticking out may break off and leave sharp edges on the surface. Be sure that raised dots have solid connections, no undercuts and that the surface decorations are robust enough to be handled roughly, remember your beads go to kids!
Do not use any reduction frit or glasses that give a metallic sheen on the surface due to heavy metal issues with these materials. These beads will not be used. Anneal your beads properly in a kiln to ensure they don’t crack. Cracked beads can’t be used in the Carry A Bead program!
We encourage artists to use their creativity when making these beads! Animals, hearts, and swirls are all accepted. Although we love polka dot beads, we want to offer more variety to our Carry a Bead participants.
If you are interested in being on our roster of artists for our Carry a Bead Program, please send a sample of 5 matched sets (10 beads total) to our headquarters at:
3230 N. Dodge Blvd Suite J Tucson, AZ 85716
After receiving samples, a Beads of Courage representative will be in touch if we wish to move forward and will establish you as a vendor with our organization. We pay $4 per matched set, and typically order 100 pairs at a time. If you have any other questions, please contact jacob@beadsofcourage.org for more information.
Thank you for helping make healing happen! Sincerely,
Jean Gribbon, Executive Director Beads of Courage
