Fueling The Passion

October 2010 Newsletter

Don McKinneyWelcome to Autumn So Cal! Lots going on in the glass and bead world!

We had an amazing turnout at our 3rd quarter meeting held at CBS. Don Mckinney was quite the treat as our demo artist. He showed us a paper weight, furnace twistie cane and fish beads, all made with dichroic glass of course.

Thanks Don and CBS for your hospitality and contribution to a great meeting!

Beads of Courage

Pacific Art Glass is also “in the news” helping us once again by hosting our 3rd Beads of Courage challenge. We got  over 30 beads made including some very impressive boro pieces! And just the week before they held their 6th annual Glass Fest that many of you visited.

Hot off the Pres2010 Holiday Meeting December 4th atPacific Art Glass!

Check out her book “Hot Off the Press!”  As usual, you will receive a nice gift with your $5 paid admission, the biggest pot luck of the year and TONS of GREAT raffle prizes, including a new torch, plus much, much more! We hope to see many of you there!

Current Events…

There are many classes and bead events coming up in the next few weeks. Be sure to check out the SCFS Calendar for up to date info.

A few of my favorites is the Los Angeles Bead Society Fall Bead Bazaar, this Sunday, Oct. 24th.

And a great opportunity for anyone who wants to (or knows someone) learn glass bead making, Heather Trimlett has ongoing beginning bead classes in the San Diego area plus she will be at The Mandrel on January 8th & 9th with her button workshop. I have said this many times, this was one of my favorite classes (and instructor) and even though you may not want to make buttons, you will learn many techniques that will help improve your bead making! Click HERE to check out Heather’s schedule plus new tool and tutorials!

Looking for more classes? SCFS has many local studios listed on our “class” page!

Did you miss something? Be sure to check the archived newsletters on the SCFSNews Page. Lots of fun photos and info!

Since I have combined the October and November Newsletter into one, have a Happy Halloween AND Happy Thanksgiving!
See you on December!
