So Cal Flame Surfers Quarterly Meeting

Our president, Diane Olson began our September meeting to an enthusiastic group of beaders! She announced the idea of a possible bead show in the future of the So Cal Flame Surfers. The response was more than positive, so keep checking the website for updates. With that in mind, Diane also mentioned the need for volunteers from members for the following: Ways & Means, Hospitality, Demo Committee and Bead Show helpers. If you are interested in helping in any of these areas, please send Diane an email or sign up at the next meeting.

We would also like to start having a “Featured Artist” page on the website. We will be starting this page very soon (be sure to check back often!) with our own pres., Diane Olson. If you are interested in being featured, please contact Judy Carlson for more information.

Jackie Mixon was our guest demonstrator. Her specialty is hearts and floral beads. She showed us some wonderful techniques and shared tricks with her favorite tool, a butter knife! Thanks Jackie! Beautiful beads!

Tim Snyder shared with us a couple of new tools made by Scott Bowens of Bearfoot Art, http://www.bearfootart.com, the Electric Mandrel Spinner and the double barrel brass roller. Tim showed us some cool shapes  and effects these tools can help you to achieve. Charlie Warner also demoed her beautiful blown perfume bottles. She makes it look so easy!

Thanks again to Linda Gillman for hosting our “Autumn” bead exchange. We decided to stick with the seasons, so the theme for the December meeting will be “Winter”.

Our next meeting will be our Christmas meeting, Saturday, December 3rd, 10 to 2 at Pacific Art Glass. There will be LOTS of fabulous raffle prizes and plenty of holiday cheer! We hope to see you there!
