Hey, it's not October yet! How can i be so organized
as to get the newsletter out 2 days early?? Well my
glass obsessed friend....I am on my way to a far away
land...with no TV, telephone or email! I am off to the
tropics to renew my glass inspiration...underwater!
(does that mean I can write this trip off? hmmm)
Sorry this is so wordy, but LOTS going on!
For
those of you who were not able to attend our September
meeting at Winship Designs, it was a blast! We announced
that SHARON PETERS will be our guest artist at the December
meeting! (December 8th, Pacific Art Glass, 10 am to
2 pm...this will be a HUGE meeting!)
Another BIG thanks to Dave Winship and his crew for
hosting a great meeting. And thank you to Joe Rooks
and friends who shared their amazing glass talents behind
the torch for us. We had a big variety of raffle prizes
including 2008 Glass Art calendars, items from our Cafe
Press SCFS store, a variety of tools, bead goodies,
glass magazines, glass samples and a $50 bundle of ASK
glass form ABR Imagery!
Back
to the October activities...the So Cal flame Surfers
will have a booth at the L.A. Bead Society Bead Bazaar
on Sunday, October 28th. We need SCFS members to help
man the booth, set up and break down. Please contact
Barbara Birbeck at barbbbeads@earthlink.net
if you can help out for a few hours. This is a great
way to promote the club, show off your own glass work
and, if you have never had a booth, get a feel for working
a show. There are several of us who have our own booths,
so we'll be there to support you and hey, it's a bead
show! You want to be there! :)
If any one is interested in sharing a booth on the
patio, Linda Shull is looking for a booth partner. Linda
does beautiful dicroic jewelry. If interested, you can
contact Linda directly at: linda@shulldesign.com.
The
Art Glass Guild of San Diego will be hosting the 6th
Annual Patio Show and Sale on Saturday, Oct. 6th from
10:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday, Oct. 7th, from 10:00am
to 5:00pm. This is the largest art glass show in Southern
California! Over 30 juried glass artists of the AGASC
will be exhibiting their work. All forms of Art Glass
will be featured, including blown, fused, torch worked,
stained glass, cast, etched, and jewelry. For more information
visit www.agasc.org
or the Art Glass Guild, Studio 25, Spanish Village Art
Center, San Diego 619-702-8006
A heads up for November...you might want to take a
quick trip to Northern CA for the BABE! show. This is
a huge, well organized 2-day bead show...with classes
prior to and through out the weekend. go to www.beadextravaganza.com/index.html
for more info.
And
be sure to SAVE THE DATE for the December meeting starring
the one and only...Ms.SHARON PETERS of SMARTASS GLASS!

Sharon will be donating her demo beads to our raffle,
and in return we will be donating a portion of the funds
collected to Beads of Courage (BOC) which is an organization
that gives beads to children battling cancer as they
move through the levels of treatment. It's a great inspiration
for them. We are also asking members to bring a bead
(or beads) to send to BOC. I will be posting more details
in the next two newsletters. In the mean time, please
check out their website for more info:

Well, I think that about does it. Remember, I will
be off email until the 21st of October. If there is
something urgent that needs addressing, please contact
our VP, Charlie Warner at charliecalif@yahoo.com
or check the website for details.
Thanks very much...have a great month and hope to see
you at the LA Bead show! Judy :)
