Greetings Flame Surfer!

Hollow CoralineSeptember 19th - SCFS Meeting at Glass Obsessions. Can you believe it's September! It's crazy! It's also still hot! I hope that you had a wonderful summer. And that you had time to do some fun things liek spend timewith friends and family, take aclass, play with glass, whatever makes you ahppy! And I also hope the only fire you are close to is on your torch! The SCFS will be having their 3rd quarter meeting this month at Glass Obsessions in Yorba Linda. We hava a very exciting meeting planned, so make your plans to join us! Our guest artist will be Cynthia Baker who will be sharing with us the art of bead making using Satake glass and the Japanese torch. If you’ve never seen these torches, you won’t want to miss this. The flame shoots straight up and the torch only uses propane, no oxy, except from the air. Cynthia will be setting up a few of these torches so our members will have a chance to experience this technique themselves. Cynthia recently returned from a retreat where she made beads using a Viking furnace and she’ll be telling us about that too.

Our bead exchange theme is “Edibles”. Once again, use your imagination....anything goes within the theme. We will be providing cool sandwich wraps and welcome any side dishes that are cool! It will probably still be warm in three weeks, so cool is good!
In addition to our regular raffle, we will be holding a special drawing. If you bring a friend, family member, co-worker, neighbor, milkman, what ever, you will get a ticket for a chance to win a holiday bead making class with Bindy Lambell! You can see Bindy's fun and colorful beads HERE

As always, bring along any new items you want to show, beads, finished jewelry, what ever you’ve been working on. We will be announcing our plans for the holiday meeting, which will be taking place on December 5th at Pacific Art Glass. It’s going to be a good one!

Looking ahead, the L. A. Bead Society will be holding there semi-annual bead bazaar in Culver City on October 25th. They cancelled their spring show, so this ought to be stock full of goodies! Many of the SCFS members have booths...come on by and say hello!
Heather Trimlett will be teaching her glass button class at The Blue Dolphin at the end of this month.  There are plenty of other classes going on through out the southland. Be sure to check out the SCFS website or check out the following local studios:

Roger Carlson's fish photoSince I didn’t have many glass related photos to put in here, (except for the beautiful shell bead above by Barbara Birbeck!) I thought I would share one of my favorites from my recent trip to Cozumel Mexico.  Photo credit goes to my hubby, Roger Carlson. This is a baby queen angel fish.

Hope to see you on September 19th!

Cheers~
