Welcome to Summer! I am assuming most of you live in Southern
California and are enjoying our beautiful, warm weather!
And just because it's hot doesn't mean you can't fire up that
torch! I usually put a fan on the floor aimed at the lower half of my chair,
which seems to help on those really hot days. Have a nice, cool iced
tea at hand and keep making those beads!
If you missed our June meeting at The Mandrel, then you missed:
~ Great raffle prizes, including SCFS items from our new Cafe Press
store!
~ Two rousing rounds of the "Pass the Bead Along" game!
~ A Hawaiian Luau theme, including leis and a Hawaiian bead them
exchange
~ Chef Jeff (Donna's husband) bbq'ing shish kabobs on the grill!
~ A fun few hours with other glass obsessed people!
I have to admit, I missed it myself, but I was *stuck* in Ireland, so
it wasn't too bad ;) But the reports were all positive and everyone
had a great time! We'll be getting together again on September 15th. This
time at Winship Designs in Torrance. Winship just had an open house
recently and it's a great place for a meeting! Be sure to mark your
calendars for the September meeting. More details next month!
Tink Martin will be teaching at The Mandrel on July 13th, 14th and
15th. Each day is a different class, including electroforming! And there
are still a few spots open. For more info,
visit The Mandrel.com or call Donna @ 310 413-9789
The next bead show coming up is the Bead Society of San Diego's 7th
annual Bead Bazaar on August 4th & 5th. This is a great show, big venue,
lots of parking and tons of beads!
Check out their website for more info.
Also, for anyone who would like to take a trip up north, there is
an Intergem Bead Show in San Mateo, CA on July 6, 7 and 8 at the location
below:
San Mateo County Expo Center
2495 South Delaware
San Mateo, CA
AND
The Sonoma Glass Art & Bead Festival, sponsored by Soft Flex on August 11th & 12th. There are several days of classes that include
lampworking, beading and wire work.
For more info click here.
The SCFS have a new website address: http://www.socalflamesurfers.org. The website was down for a short time due to a little glitch in thererouting, but it's up and running and has been updated with photos from the June meeting. The old address (socalbeadmakers.org) will reroute you to the new addy, but only for a few more months. Please be sure to
bookmark the site and check in regularly for updates.
And don't forget
to check out our new STORE! We now have t-shirts, caps, mugs and magnets
with the SCFS logo for purchase.
I do hope you are enjoying your summer and I look forward to seeing you
at one of the many bead events soon!
Cheers~ Judy Carlson
