Greetings Flame Surfers!
This is my first, official newsletter for the club as your new president. And thank you for your votes and support! We have a wonderful new board and we are all very excited about keeping this club going and having fun!
First and foremost, I want to remind everyone about our first meeting of 2007 which will be held at Pacific Art Glass on Saturday, March 17th starting at 10 am. We will be introducing our new 2007-2009 board plus we have several activities planned. Our new board includes: Vice President, Charlie Warner; Treasurer, Donna Conklin; Secretary, Susan Walter; Hospitality Chair, Bindy Lambell; Featured Artist Chair, Barbara Birbeck and President, Judy Carlson.
Our bead exchange theme...in keeping with the St. Patrick’s Day theme...is “GREEN”. Use your imagination, anything green goes!
Rich “Santa Claus” Shelby will be demoing his soft glass marbles with bubbles and Mike Close will be making a boro marble. Even if you are not a marble maker, you will most likely pick up some tips to incorporate into your beads. I’m sure you will enjoy both demos. Plus, maybe Rich will share tips on using up those little glass scrap ends!
We will also be introducing a new “Flame Game” which will be a hands on torch sessions for anyone who wants to be involved. This game will be a “pass the bead along” so each person has a few minutes to add their touch to a bead before passing it along to the next lampworker. Each participant will receive a collaborative bead for their collection! If you are interested in playing, please bring your tools, a few rods of glass and protective eye gear.
Our Hospitality Chair, Bindy Lambell, will be sending out an email next week with details on our potluck lunch.
The meetings begin at 10 am with a 30 minute social, board announcements, raffle, bead exchange, demo and “Flame Game”. There is a $5 cover fee. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. If you bring your 2007 ISGB membership card, you will receive one free raffle ticket.
