Hi Everyone.
Just a reminder that our next meeting will be Saturday June 17th from 10:00a to 2:00p at Pacific Art Glass in Gardena, CA. We have a great day planned. Our bead exchange theme is Beach Beads. So anything that reminds you of the beach/summer like fish, shells, etched beads will do the trick. If you want to participate in the exchange, please wrap your bead and put your card or name in the bag so everyone will know who's bead they get. If you bring a bead, then you get to select a bead to take home. We will have drawing for prizes like glass/tools, so bring a few dollars to buy tickets for these goodies. Our food theme this meetng will be Mexican buffet. So if you'd like to bring something to share with the group, that would be great. Pam Pitts will be doing a demonstration on marble making. Pam makes terrific marbles, so I know the demo will be great. Everyone please bring your latest and greatest beads that you have been working for show and tell with the group. It's always fun to see what everyone is doing. Also, we have Pati Walton coming to Pacific to teach a 3 day class in July. Please check with John or Tim to see if there are still spaces open. This will be a wonderful class. Please check our website: socalbeadmakers.org for all the latest information on our club and it's activities. If you have any questions, you can email me at: charliecalif@yahoo.com
Hope to see you on the 17th.

Hi Everyone. We now have confirmation for Pati Walton's class at Pacific Art Glass on July 21-23. In this 3 day class we will learn how to make murrini's and of course how to make some of Pati's fantastic beads. You can see her work at Patiwalton.com. The classes will run from approximately 8:30a to 5:00p each day. We will send out a supply list before the class listing all the tools/glass that you will need. John will have a good supply of all the glass that we can purchase-especially any specialty colors that Pati
might use. If you'd like to sign up for the class, please call Pacific Art Glass at 310 516 7828. If you have any questions, please email me. I know this willbe a great class and I hope to see some of you there.
Charlie Warner

Our next meeting will be June 17th at the usual spot, Pacific Art Glass. Since it is soon close to the first day of summer, we thought it would be appropriate to have a "Beachy Beads" theme for the bead exchange. If you would like to participate, please bring a bead (or beads) in a wrapped bag or box with your biz card (or name).
We are very happy to welcome Pam Pitts who will be our demoing artist. Pam makes amazing marbles and will be sharing some of her talents with us. To learn more about Pam, please visit http://www.bofnc.com/PJPitts.htm

Our food theme is going to be a festive Mexican fiesta! Stay tuned, Bindy will be in touch just before the meeting. So ink the date and we hope to see you all in June!

So Cal Flame Surfers
1st Quarterly Meeting
March 4, 2006

Pam HogarthSo Cal Flame Surfers first meeting of 2006 was opened by our treasurer, Charlie Warner. Charlie described all of our wonderful raffle prizes generously donated. (listed below) She then explained some of the many benefits that are offered from being a member of the ISGB (International Society of Glass Beadmakers). These include the quartely publicaton of “The Bead Release” , discussion forums, affordable health insurance and access to liability insurance, just to name a few. For more information, please check out the ISGB member benefits page

The ISGB Gathering is an annual event that includes numerous classes, seminars, demonstrations, contests, banquets and several days of socializing with hundresd of other glass artists! Members recieve priority registration and discounts. In case you did not know, So Cal Flame Surfers is a sub-chapter of the ISGB, so we really encourage everyone to support this organization.

Cathy McNassorOur vice prez, Cathy McNassor continued the meeting for our president, Diane Olsen, who was unfortuantely home sick. (Hope you feel better soon Diane!) Cathy showed the group of 24 beaders a possible design for a So Cal Flame Surfers logo. This is the first design submitted so we encourage anyone with an idea to send to admin@socalflamesurfers.org and then we can have the group vote on their favorite. Stay tuned for more details!

Members who have a website are encouraged to submit their website, one photo and a quick blurb on their beads to be posted on our Members Gallery page. Check it out and pomote traffic for your website!

We are trying to pin down a class date for Pati Walton sometime in July. Pati is known for her amazing aquarium beads and her intricate murrini. We will announce the date asap to the members first, giving us priority to sign up for the class. The class will most likely be during the week but I can guarantee it will sell out fast!

And speaking of dates, as soon as we know the date of our 2nd quarter meeting in June, it will be posted here, so keep checking back!

The imaginations were certainly in high gear for our bead exchange which was hollows. All of the beads were so beautiful and SO different! Everything from beautifully decorated round beads to turtles, vegetables and flying pigs! Next months theme TBD. Again, please check the website for details.

The raffle included gift certificates from San Gabriel Bead Company, Bullseye glass bundles, several letter opener blanks and other goodies from Pacific Art Glass, plus several boro bundles from Glass Alchemy, (thanks to the girls from BNC), and that just to list a few!

And then of course, there was the food! Bindy Lambell, our lovely hospitality chairperson, organized a delicious (and healthy!) salad bar theme. And there was plenty! Thanks Bindy! Next meetings food theme will be a Mexican Fiesta!

Keeping with the hollow bead theme, who better to demo hollows but Pam Hogarth (queen of hollows!) Pam demoed a couple of her methods making hollow beads. Pam makes big, beautiful hollows and not just rounds beads, but pumpkins, adorable fish and chirpy birds. Cathy McNassor also demoed her hollow which includes making a base tube bead and building a hollow over the tube. Cathy like to use color reacting glass and frits, giving her beads a beautiful organic look.

We hope you will join us for the June meeting and remember to check back soon for updates on meeting and class dates, as well as bead exchange theme for June.
Happy beading!

This is the project for kids at various Children's hospitals that are going through cancer treatments and as rewards, they get to chose a bead after treatments. If people are interested in participating, please see the links below for more details.

From Katie: Beads of Courage needs beads, especially PURPLE HEARTS! I know most beadmakers have plenty of 'oops' beads they can share.

All beads can be mailed directly to:
