Fueling The Passion

May 2008 Newsletter

It’s almost summer! YAY! I love the summer time, I love warm weather and (I know it’s bad, but…) I love the sun! I love when it’s warm enough to have dinner outside and I love how the garden looks too. It’s a little tougher to torch during heat waves, but I still manage to get out there. Just set that fan for waist down…that does the trick for me!

Summer also means it’s time for our 2nd quarter meeting will be held at the Mandrel on June 28th. The bead exchange theme will be “Picnic at the Beach”. Anything goes…beach beads, surf boards, food, bunnys in bikinis….what ever! We are also asking members to bring in any “orphan beads” to be donated to the ISGB for Gathering goodie bags. They are looking for basic beads, nothing fancy, just beads! They need over 600, so what ever we can do to help would be very much appreciated. If you bring in a baggie of at least 20 beads, (1 ticket for every 20!) your name will be put in a drawing and the winner will receive a very nice bundle ($40 value) of colored boro glass!

We will provide a sandwich tray, so bring sides….potato salad, side salads, chips, veggies, pie, lemonade, what ever you feel woud be appropriate “picnic” food.

The demos this month will be a few of our “own” demoing wire wrapping techniques. We will have a couple demos going on at the same time, so you can move around and see different techniques and designs. This would be a great meeting to bring your finished pieces since that will be the focus of the demos. We all enjoy seeing other designers work…show it off!

Brad Pearson will be teaching at The Mandrel on June 7th & 8th. Check out www.themandrel.com for more info.

The International Gem & Jewelry show is happening on in Santa Monica June 13th to the 15th. www.intergem.net/event/detail.cfm?showID=20
And coming up in August, the Bead Society of San Diego County put on a wonderful show at the Scottish Rite Center….lots of lampwork art and great beading supplies!

And the biggie, The ISGB Gathering is taking place in OUR backyard! Take advantage of how close this event is to us! I know I’ll be there!

There are so many activities, classes, bead swaps, wine stopper contest, a banquet, bead bazaars, tons of demos! This will be my first Gathering and I am really looking forward to it! For more info, visit the ISGB website.

I look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks! As always, be sure to check the website calendar/news for updates and info.
Judy 🙂
