March 2008 Newsletter

Greetings SCFS!

March Madness, St. Patty’s Day, Easter, Passover, SPRING!

Another busy month is upon us and it’s time for the first SCFS meeting of 2008! We really hope to see you on March 22nd, 10 am start time at Pacific Art Glass. We are very excited to announce our guest speaker will be Alethia Donathan of DACS Beads in Honolulu. Alethia makes gorgeous beads and she is also the VP of the ISGB. Aside from her demo, Alethia will be talking to us about the ISGB and the Gathering, which will be taking place in Oakland this August (so excited!!) The bead theme for hte exchange will be “Frits & Florals”. Bring a wrapped bead and be sure to put your name in along with the bead so the lucky recipient knows where the treasure came from! So please join us!

Check out Alethia’s website here: dacsbeads.com

We are going try the meeting schedule a little differently. We will have an approximate 45 minute “social” (10 to 10:45ish) and then begin the meeting. So bring a food/drink item for the “pot luck” (no theme) and plan on snacking during the social hour.

Loco will be gracing the Featured Artist page over the next month or two, so be sure to check that out. If you are interested in becoming a FA, please contact Barb Birbeck at: barbbbeads@att.net

Next month is the Las Vegas Glasss Expo beginning April 2nd for classes and the glass/bead show Friday through Sunday. This is a really cool show and not too far from So Cal….and hey, it’s Vegas! So there is plenty to do!

April 12th & 13th, Judy Carlson will be teaching her “Sea of Techniques & Fishing 101” Class. For more info, please visit www.themandrel.com

April 25th is the Bead show at the Bowers Museum in Orange County hosted by the OC bead society. www.beadsocietyoc.org/bazaar/beadbazaar.html

And the next day, April 26th is the LA bead society show in Culver City. www.beadsocietyla.org/html/bazaars.html. So make your plans to hit one of the two, they are both great shows!

Carey Conely is our webmaster and does a fantastic job keeping the website updated, so be sure to check the website for the SCFS activities and events!

We hope to see you at the March meeting. And be sure to mark your calendars for the June 28th meeting at the Mandrel. We’ve got some cool stuff planned for that one too!

Judy 🙂
