Beads of Courage Bead Challenge at CBS coming soon!

Beads of CourageWe (SCFS) are extremely excited about hosting the Beads of Courage Fund Raiser on April 16th at CBS. This will be a full day of glass demos, plus open torch to make beads for BOC (must sign up prior), a “boutique” that volunteers are welcome to sell their finished jewelry (a portion of the sales to BOC) plus make and take tables and of course, food!

We will need several volunteers, (min. 2 hours or more if you like) so if you are interested, please email me at judy@jujeebeads.com and I will add you to the list. Please include your phone number. Even if you did sign up at teh meeting, please email me…the sign up sheet got lost! I will be giving out complete details next month, so be sure to check out your March newsletter or better yet, come to our SCFS meeting on March 19th at The Glass Studio!

You may see a few more emails with more info. We really want this event to be a big success for Beads of Courage. CHOC (Children’s Hospital of Orange County) is just 1 mile from CBS and supports the BOC program for their kids. We are hoping to have some of the kids visit through out the day. They will be able to see how their treasured glass beads are made, plus make bracelets for them selves. We will also have a raffle going throughout the day. I promise more details soon, as we finalize a few things. Most important at this time is your commitment to be there. It will be a great day!

The Glass StudioFirst SCFS meeting of 2011…New location!

Our next meeting will be on March 19th at the new The Glass Studio in Highland Park.  Our bead theme is “Potpourri!”, so anything goes! Cathi is working on some cool demos, maybe even something other than lampworking, but still glass. It should be fun! Potluck is the usual, we will provide some snack and drinks, so sides and sweets are always welcome. And if you feel like staying in the neighborhood a little longer, there are little shops, galleries and cafes all within walking distance. Help ring in the new year for your SCFS! Your bead could be on the next NASA Space Shuttle Flight!

Beads in SpaceBeads of Courage is looking for beads to fly on the next (and very last NASA Space Shuttle Flight! This is a juried selection, based on theme and weight. They are allowed 1lb of beads (up from the 8oz. on the last flight!) Click HERE for an entry form and more info. I had a bead that flew on the last shuttle and I can’t tell you how exciting it is to be part of the Beads in Space. Besides helping out BOC, it was a thrill to know my little frog bead actually took a trip to the space station! The beads (and all other goodies) that go to space become extremely valuable. The last set of beads that flew have been “on tour” and are safely guarded. I encourage you to submit some cute space themed beads and get them in soon…deadline is February 26th. HURRY!!
