Fueling The Passion

December 2010 Newsletter

ornamentHappy Holidays

I hope your Thanksgiving was full of happiness with friends and family! And now it’s time to prepare for the next holiday! We are excited about our 4th and final meeting of 2010, the BIG holiday SCFS meeting on December 4th at Pacific Art Glass!

Beads of Courage TigerThis is always the biggest and best meeting of the year in so many ways. This season we are very happy to have joining us Jean Baruch, the Executive Director and Founder of Beads of Courage and Lori Greenberg as our demo artist. Jean will be sharing her passion behind this wonderful program for children ailing from life threatening illnesses. Jean is an amazing speaker and I know you will enjoy listening to her as well as asking any questions you may have.

You might even see this cute little BOC tiger at our meeting too!
(Available for purchase on the BOC website. Nice gift item!)

Hot off the PressThere are so many different shaped presses available these days and some are not so easy to figure out. Lori has written a book called “Hot Off the Press” that teaches you how to get that perfect shape from your glass presses.  Lori will be there to give you tips to achieve the desired shape plus demo some of her favorites and most challenging! We encourage you to bring any press (or 2) that you may be having difficulty using.

Yes, there will be good eats!

As always, we will be serving up lots of hearty snacks! Please bring a side, snack, salad or sweet to share with the group. The more the merrier!

SCFS foodOur bead exchange theme is DICRO beads. We hope you picked up some nice sample bags from our last meeting at CBS. I LOVE the new Uroboros 104 dicro! Nice and thin and melts like butter! Very easy to use. We have LOTS of raffle prizes including a Mega Minor Torcha Creation Station (these are wonderful!) and lots of glass goodies including a nice DH gift with your $5 meeting fee. So be sure to bring lots of $$$! A portion of our raffle proceeds will be given as a cash donation to BOC!

As usual, we will be holding our annual BOC bead collection. Those of you bringing a bag of 25 beads or more will receive one free raffle ticket! Be sure the beads are cleaned with smooth holes. Purple hearts are always a plus!

striped coralThis is the time to renew your ISGB membership! There are many benefits to being a member of theISGB. Most importantly, you are supporting a group of artists all sharing the love of glass beadmaking! Check out the website for more information.
